Sliding Command Center

Command Center Layout If you have kids then you know how important it is to have a command center.  A place where all the things can go, schedules can be posted and artwork be displayed.

For years we bounced between the refrigerator, our phones, a wall calendar, and everything seemed to just pile up on the kitchen island.  My wife really wanted to build out a command center but I wanted to wait until I was ready to install a sliding barn door.  I figured it would be a great use of the space, to hang all the important stuff on the door.  After a year of planning and waiting (all my fault) I finally built this sliding command center.

It was quite easy.  Pine board core, screwed together.  Oak outer trim frame.  And some cheap but nice looking whitewash barn wood.  I got an office depot calendar and a 4 pocket storage unit I found at Hobby Lobby.  I really like these old rustic clothespins and decided to screw them into the door and it made for a simple way to hang the calendar.

I used some large ring clamps and used jelly jars to mount the two glasses.  We can use them for pens, miscellaneous items or even flowers.

If you like the barn wood I used, you can find it here: Timeline Wood Skinnies
